stickybits = ENDLESS opportunities

stickybits.com website

Introducing stickybits. A fun and social way to attach digital content to real world objects.

Saw stickybits in the App Store on Friday and have not stopped thinking about it. Like I wrote in the title, I think the opportunities for this are ENDLESS.

The basic premise:

  1. Scan a barcode (or QR code)
  2. Attach something– a photo, video, audio clip, pdf, zip file, text file etc. to the bar code,
  3. Other people scan it – using the free stickybits app (available for iPhone and Android) people can ‘see’ your attached digital content

Scanning ‘codes’ for info isn’t new, we’ve all seen the codes in newspapers that you can scan with your smartphone, but here’s the cool part. You can scan any barcode and ‘tag’ it. That means existing ones… like on a can of coke, or new ones. stickybits allows you to create your own barcodes to use on pretty much whatever you want. Need 1, no problem. Need more, no problem. They even sell products on their site with codes on them that can be personalized–things like coffee cups and t-shirts.

Try it out now. Here’s my barcode from stickybits:

My stickybits barcode 3347566422854

Scan my barcode from stickybits using their free app and check out what I’ve attached, then attach something yourself. (more…)

WPTouch installed

Just added the WPTouch plugin to the site. Love it so far and I haven’t even done any customization yet.

Visit my blog on your mobile device (if you aren’t already) to see it in action.

Great job BraveNewCode!

Are You Going to Finish Strong?

Had an email sent to me today from a member of our Men’s Ministy team at church. The subject read, Any complaints today….. watch this video PLEASE!!!. I have learnt over time that you don’t always open these kinds of emails, especially if the person is fairly new to the internet and email.

Why? Well, most of the newbies actually believe that:

  • they will get a free ipod if they forward the email on to all of their friends
  • Bill Gates will give them $100 for everyone that they send this email to
  • that an amazing video will pop-up on their screen after they send this email to 100 people
  • that they will be cursed if they break this chain
  • fill in any other threat, prize or curse here

Anyways, I digress. This email came from someone who isn’t a newbie, and is someone whom I trust. He doesn’t send these types of emails, so this must be good.

The only thing Don wrote in the email was, “No words from me required… the video speaks for itself!” Here’s the video:

Color of the Year for 2009

PANTONE® 14-0848 Mimosa

“The color yellow exemplifies the warmth and nurturing quality of the sun, properties we as humans are naturally drawn to for reassurance,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Mimosa also speaks to enlightenment, as it is a hue that sparks imagination and innovation.”Best illustrated by the abundant flowers of the Mimosa tree and the sparkle of the brilliantly hued cocktail, the 2009 color of the year represents the hopeful and radiant characteristics associated with the color yellow. Mimosa is a versatile shade that coordinates with any other color, has appeal for men and women, and translates to both fashion and interiors. Vision Journal

Vision: Winter 2008

Vision: Winter 2008

I’ve been getting the quarterly journal Vision for the last year or so–I really like the design and layout, and I enjoy the content. It examines today’s issues using the Bible as its source for truth. Here’s a paragraph from the About Vision page on their website (you’ll also find this statement in every printed journal):

But, like every other information or news source, we do have a certain bent. Vision.org brings insight into the complex social, moral and philosophical questions that confront society by examining them through the wisdom of an ancient source, the Bible. We believe that the principles contained in that book are still valid and can be applied to help solve the global, national and personal conflicts we face. But we do not proselytize, nor do we seek to convert anyone to any denomination or religious belief. Our only goal is to reestablish the Bible as a credible voice in the discussion of ideas.
